Part of a Complete System
Training is not a stand-alone offering or simply a collection of courses. It is the connective pillar within a unified professional system: the BoK defines what practitioners must know; training translates that standard into applied capability, and; the credential independently verifies demonstrated competence. Together, these three pillars create a consistent, portable path from foundational knowledge to professional mastery.
Competency-based learning organizes instruction around what a practitioner can demonstrably do, not around how many hours they have spent in a classroom. Traditional training fixes the time and allows mastery to vary. The competency-based model reverses this: the standard of mastery is fixed, and the time required to reach it varies by individual. This is why every learning objective in the IRPP BoK is written as an observable capability and tagged to a cognitive level — whether the practitioner must recall a fact, explain a mechanism, or apply a principle to an unfamiliar situation. Those tags determine how each objective is taught and how it is assessed. A credential built this way certifies capability rather than attendance.
Competency Based Learning
IRPP can provide training as long as it maintains a strict separation between education and examination. This separation is essential to IRPP's integrity as a credentialing body under ISO/IEC 17024, the international standard for bodies certifying people. The standard permits a credentialing body to publish study materials and deliver instruction, subject to two controls: 1) IRPP training may never be a prerequisite for sitting for an IRPP examination, and; 2) instructional personnel must be separated from exam personnel. IRPP is fostering a system of training resources aligned directly with the BoK. Whether someone learns through IRPP, an IRPP-affiliated training entity, an employer's program, or other means, the curriculum is mapped to the unified standard - the IRPP-BoK.
Training and Exams are Separate
The IRPP Training Ecosystem is being built in parallel with the Body of Knowledge. As the BoK is completed and validated through the Job Task Analysis, IRPP will publish the Exam Content Outline, the blueprint that specifies domain weighting and cognitive levels for the examination. The first training program for the RPP-F credential, IRRP's first program, will be available in advance of the first RPP-F examination window. IRPP training is not a prerequisite for sitting for an IRPP exam; candidates who prepare through employer programs, affiliated providers, or independent study are equally eligible.
